Add the URLs that you want to block on your connected devices, as shared below: You may find this in the “Firewall” menu, or in the “Security” section. The location of this will vary depending on your router. Find the “URL Filtering” or “Blocking” section. ADGUARD ROKU PASSWORD(THIS IS ALSO A GOOD TIME TO SECURE YOUR ROUTER WITH A STRONG USERNAME AND PASSWORD FYI!)ģ. Check your router’s documentation if you don’t know the default login information. For many routers, this is usually “admin” or blank for the username, and “admin” or blank for the password. If you never changed this information, key in the default administrator account information. NOTE: If your router is not listed, do a quick google search and you will find your router login information.Ģ. To access these, open the router’s configuration page in a web browser on a computer that’s connected to your network. If the sites you want to block aren’t encrypted, you can usually block them using your router’s built-in tools. All you need is to add a bunch of domains/websites to your block list on your internet router. ADGUARD ROKU TVThere are also workarounds for blocking ads on Roku and Amazon Fire Stick, but as always with unofficial solutions, some units may remain unresponsive to these hacks.īut until responsible vendors actually do something about the annoying ads, you may have no option but to try these workarounds on your affected smart TV.Īpparently, blocking ads on your Samsung smart TV is pretty much simple. So far, workarounds to block ads on Samsung, LG and Sony smart TVs have been tried and tested. As a result, affected users have resorted to finding unofficial workarounds to block these annoying ads and we have some of them detailed on Reddit. ![]() I own Samsung’s $2500 “Frame” art TV and it gets ads in the menus too…You’d think Samsung would give you a break at the high end, but they’ll do anything to get a buck, and there’s no way to disable itĭespite the growing discontent, Samsung has done little to address the matter. Unremovable ads on my $2,500 Samsung Smart TV Their large size makes them even more obtrusive. Apparently, these ads aren’t about new apps, products, or streaming content like before. Samsung smart TVs are also affected by this issue, where users are seeing intrusive ads that have nothing to do with their interests. But it’s not just Samsung’s smartphone base that is unhappy with ads showing up where they shouldn’t. Not long ago, we reported about Samsung dismissing accusations that it has been showing ads in the Samsung Health app on its smartphones. Google is perhaps the most popular in this line of work, but others like Samsung also have their Ad networks. I won't tolerate being advertised to without my consent, on a connection that I have to pay for.One of the ways big tech companies generate revenue is through advertisements. Otherwise, it will only be a matter of time before Pepsi or Ford is buying ad space there. ADGUARD ROKU INSTALLI will install one of these network wide ad blockers to get rid of the ads. (How long before "The Roku Channel" somehow looks better with less traffic interruptions than Hulu or Amazon Prime)? And to be honest, I don't think the maker of the box or the TV OS should be able to have their own TV channel anyway. (Ads are why I dropped cable and broadcast TV way before it was a thing). I have zero interest in ad-supported streaming services and therefore, zero interest in the Roku Channel. I didn't mind it as much when the ads were for random channels, but now it seems like every ad is for the Roku Channel. So yeah, i get it, but you might try allowing those ads for a while and see if you find them useful, you can always just block them again. I hate to sound like a shill for ads and my home network is on Openwrt with Adblock installed, so i obviously don't have anything against blocking ads, but i whitelisted Roku because the ads on the homescreen are A) unobtrusive and well done and B) actually show me things i might want, can't even say how many times ive quickly clicked on a channel with just a glance at the ad and immediately regretted it because it looked like something i might be interested in, but i know when i click back the next ad will already be loaded. ![]()
